Accessibility and display
Themes, date format, card density and fullscreen, the Relates to chip and / search shortcut settings, the four accessibility settings, keyboard and screen-reader use, touch screens, and exporting or deleting your data.
Theme
The paintbrush button at the top of the page (Theme settings) picks a theme: System, which follows your device's light or dark setting, or Dark, Dracula, Gruvbox, High Contrast, Index Card, Light or Post-it. Your choice is saved to your account, so it follows you to other devices.
Date format
Settings → Date format chooses how dates read on boards, charts and billing: DD/MM/YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD. Cards and chart axes use a shorter form in the same order, such as "12 Aug". Until you choose, GitGumbo goes by your browser's language. It's saved to your account.
Density, collapse and fullscreen
On the board header:
- Full / Compact sets how much each card shows. Compact keeps titles to one line and hides the labels row. It's saved to your account.
- Collapse controls hides the board header and filter bar, leaving a thin strip with Show controls.
- Expand board hides the sidebars and the top bar so the board fills the window. Exit fullscreen brings them back.
Collapse and fullscreen are remembered in this browser, and their buttons aren't shown on phones.
Board display
Settings → Board display → Show 'Relates to' links on cards shows or hides the Relates to chip on cards, the dashed lines it draws to related cards, and the Related filter. It's on until you turn it off, and it's saved to your account. Turning it off changes only what you see: sync keeps reading the links, so they're back as soon as you turn it on again. The Blocked, blocking and related issues guide explains the chip.
Press / to search the board turns the / shortcut on or off (see Keyboard). It's on until you turn it off. Turn it off if you use speech input and a spoken "slash" keeps moving you to the search box.
Accessibility settings
Settings → Accessibility has four settings. Each is Follow system, On or Off, and is saved to your account.
- Higher contrast: stronger borders on cards, inputs and dividers, on top of whichever theme you use. Follows your device's contrast setting.
- Reduce motion: less animation and fewer transitions. Loading spinners keep turning, so you can still tell when something is in progress. Follows your device's reduced-motion setting.
- Distinguish by shape: adds shapes to pipeline dots on cards (✓ passed, ✕ failed, ◐ running, and so on) and to the Review activity and Contributors charts, so status isn't shown by colour alone.
- Move cards without dragging: adds a Move button to each card that moves it by picking a column and a position. Useful with a head-mouse, eye-tracker, trackball or switch. Touch screens always show it.
No device offers the last two as a setting, so for them Follow system means off.
Keyboard
- Skip to main content is the first thing Tab reaches on every page.
- Press / on a board to jump to its search box, with anything already in it selected so you can type over it. It does nothing while you're typing in another field or while a modal dialog is open. Turn it off in Settings → Board display. It's off on the demo board.
- Tabbing into a card shows its buttons, just as pointing at it does.
- Cards can't be dragged with the keyboard. Turn on Move cards without dragging and use each card's Move button: pick a column, then Top, After #N or Bottom. ← Back returns to the column list.
- Columns have a Move column button (First, After …, Last) on every board, no setting needed.
- Esc closes the move menus and returns focus to their button. It also closes the blocked, blocking and relates-to panels, the theme and user menus, the Assignee and GitLab board menus and dialogs, clears the search box, and exits an expanded column.
Screen readers
- Moves are announced with real column names: "Picked up issue #12", "issue #12 was dropped on Closed", or, from the move menu, "Issue #12 moved to Done, After #5".
- Chips and buttons have names that say what they mean, such as "Blocked by 3 issues", or the full state of a merge request.
- Every Stats chart has a data table with the same numbers.
- If a move fails, the error is announced.
Touch screens
On a touch screen, each card's buttons are always shown, with larger targets. Cards can't be dragged, so use the Move button (arrows icon) to move them. A column's WIP state shows as a red dot when it's over its limit.
On narrow screens, some things are hidden to save space: the coloured sync pill, the collapse and fullscreen buttons, the Columns button and, below laptop width, the numbers in the board header. Filters fold behind a Filters button.
Export your data
Settings → Data & Privacy → Export downloads a JSON file of your data: your profile and preferences, linked accounts (without their tokens), your firms and memberships, your personal workspace's projects and issues, and your own pins, orders, automations, saved filters and API token details. Access tokens and other secrets are never included. You can export 5 times an hour.
Delete your account
Settings → Data & Privacy → Delete account, then Confirm delete. This can't be undone.
- Your personal workspace and everything in it is deleted. If you pay for it, the subscription is cancelled straight away and the unused part of the period is refunded to your card.
- Each firm you own alone passes to its longest-serving admin, or if there's none, its longest-serving member. A firm with nobody else in it is deleted, and its subscription cancelled.
- GitGumbo's access to your GitLab and GitHub accounts is revoked. Personal access tokens stay valid on the provider, so revoke them there too.
- Boards in other firms that ran on your linked accounts stay, but are disconnected until an admin re-points them.
