Filtering and finding
Search the board, narrow it with filters, and share or come back to exactly the view you had.
The filter bar above the board narrows what you see. Filters only change your view: nothing is written to GitLab or GitHub, and your teammates' boards are unaffected.
Search
Type in the search box (Search by title, #issue or !MR... on GitLab, Search by title, #issue or #PR... on GitHub) to show only cards whose title contains what you typed, ignoring case. A number also finds cards by number, from the left: 12 finds #12, #120 and #1200, but not #312.
- A plain number, such as
12, matches the issue's number or the number of a merge request (pull request on GitHub) linked to it. #12matches issue numbers. On GitHub it matches pull request numbers too, because GitHub writes both as#12.!12matches merge request or pull request numbers only, the way GitLab writes them.
Labels and descriptions aren't searched. Press Esc to clear it.
Search and filters work on the cards the board has loaded. A very large project may not have them all loaded; see "When the board can't show everything" below.
Whose cards
- GitHub: the Assignee menu shows one person's cards, or All. It starts on your own cards. After that, GitGumbo remembers your last choice for each project in this browser. With more than 20 people, a search box appears. There's no option for unassigned issues.
- GitLab: there's no Assignee menu. Instead, pick which of the project's GitLab issue boards to show, just as on GitLab. GitGumbo starts on the board assigned to you if there is one, and remembers your choice for each project in this browser.
Labels
Click a label to show only cards with it. Pick several and you see cards with any of them. The first 12 labels are shown, then "+N more"; labels you've selected always stay visible. Labels the board already uses as columns, such as Stage:: labels, aren't offered.
Toggles
Each toggle shows only the cards that match it:
- Draft: a linked merge request (pull request on GitHub) is a draft.
- Unresolved threads: a linked merge request has open review threads.
- Conflicts: a linked merge request has merge conflicts.
- Failed: a linked merge request's pipeline failed or passed with warnings.
- Blocked/Blocking: cards that are blocked by other issues or block them. "Relates to" links don't count. See the Blocked, blocking and related issues guide.
- Related: cards with at least one "relates to" link. Hidden when you've turned those links off in Settings.
- Confidential (GitLab only): confidential issues.
- Overdue (GitLab only, because GitHub issues have no due date): open issues past their due date.
The first four show a number: how many merge requests (or threads, for Unresolved) match. A toggle only appears when at least one card on the board matches it, so the bar changes from project to project.
Milestone and type
- Milestone appears when any card has a milestone. Pick one to show only its cards.
- Type appears on GitLab when the board has tasks, incidents or test cases as well as plain issues. "No type yet" picks out issues GitGumbo hasn't read the type of yet.
How filters combine
Different filters narrow the board together: Assignee, labels, search, each toggle, milestone and type must all match. Within labels, any selected label is enough.
On a phone, the filters fold behind a Filters button that shows how many are on. Search stays outside it.
Sharing and coming back
Your filters and each column's sort are kept in the page address, so copying the address shares exactly what you see. The person you send it to sees the same filters, including the same assignee. One exception: a link copied while showing All people opens on the other person's own default.
GitGumbo also remembers where you were:
- Boards in the sidebar reopens the board you last viewed, with its filters, in this browser.
- Switching project with the project name at the top of the board brings back the filters you last used on that project, for as long as the tab stays open.
A filter that no longer matches anything, such as a deleted label or milestone, is dropped on its own.
When nothing shows
- "No open cards assigned to …": the assignee filter is on and that person has no open cards. On GitHub the board starts on your own cards, so this is what you see if nothing is assigned to you. Switch Assignee to All.
- "No open cards match the current filters": turn some filters off.
- "This project has no open issues, or they haven't been synced yet": nothing to show, or the first sync hasn't finished.
When the board can't show everything
A board loads the first 2,000 open issues (500 on a board with no columns set up yet: a GitHub board without Stage:: labels, or a GitLab project with no board lists). If a project has more, an amber notice says so, and search and filters only cover what's loaded. On boards whose columns are all labels, the Open column also stops at 200 issues and says so. The Closed column always shows the 200 most recently updated closed issues, without a notice.
The numbers in the header
On a wide screen, the board header shows how many open issues are on screen, how many have merge requests, how many don't, and how many have stale merge requests (idle for 3 days or more). The numbers follow your filters.
